Problems to take note when buying a cell phone
The problem for cell phone users is the fact the phones are continually changing; it can be very difficult keeping up with all the latest functions that you ‘can't possibly do without'. Education is the key to successfully buying or arranging a contract; however, a little knowledge can make all the difference.
Battery life is always an issue and even though they last longer (and are smaller), they have much more to do, so always leaving your phone until it is almost drained of power can cause problems. If you do not want to replace your cell phone battery early then you must not continue leaving the recharge cycle until the last minute.
The back light is the second biggest power drain of any cell phone battery but this can be either turned off or use the auto back light off function if your phone is supplied with one. Some areas of the country always have poor signal strength and coverage but it will still try to find a signal; however this uses up a great deal of your cell phone battery power so if you find yourself in an area like this, just turn it off until you find a better reception. The more you talk, the quicker the battery will drain; this is also true for times your cell phone is connected to the Internet, downloading games or playing music for example.
Whilst downloading new ring tones and wallpaper is a great idea, many people are given free sample but forget they will be charged for the rest that are download automatically, sometimes without their knowledge. Children are usually the most likely candidates to get caught out like this so if you are buying a phone for your child try to buy a model where you can disable this function with a password.
People that use a cell phone regularly, arrange for a monthly plan, this is a contract over 12 or 24 months but if the phone is not going to be used regularly, a pay-per use option is probably preferable. The price for each type of contract needs to be looked at carefully but as a general rule the more often you use the phone the more sensible a long term contract will be. Most companies supply people that have contracts with them, additional features not available with basic plans which means you could have caller id or a two number phone for example.
Also with any plan, consider if long distance is included so find out the usual roaming charges, connection fees (if applicable), and if there are any other hidden fees in the plan. Steer clear of a contract that does not supply the phone with an insurance warranty as you could be liable for any costs if it were stolen or inadvertently damaged.
Many companies now offer phones online and do not have physical stores; these will often have late model cell phones that you may find it hard to find accessories for so ensure you trust the supplier before you buy.
